4. Teaching Practice

1.1 Procedures of Teaching

            Preliminary Activities: 

  • Prayer

  • Greetings

  • Classroom Management

  • Checking of Attendance of the class

  • Review     

  • Drill
    (addition using flashcards to make the students alert before starting the new lesson.)

       

            Motivation

         (to catch the attention of the students about the new topic.)      

            Presentation 

  • Explaining to the students what the topic is about

  • Asking the students if they have any prior knowledge about the topic.

  • Giving a lot of examples is a must because majority of the students think that math is a hard subject so, giving a lot of examples will help them learn more.

            Generalization

  • Overall assessment question about the discussed topic.

 

            Application

        (the students apply the knowledge they learn from the discussion.)

  • Making the students answer on the board to show their learning progress.

            Evaluation

        (Overall assessment of the students learning about the topic that had been discussed in the class.)

  • Answering problems individually.

1.2 Time Management and Organizing Activities

            In every activities and discussion there is a time allotment in each of it. Explaining the rules and procedures in every activity is a must to have an organize flow and maximize the use of time in the classroom.

 

Time Allotment (105 minutes) 1hr and 45 mins

Generalization - 10 mins

Application - 10 mins

Evaluation - 15 mins

1.3 Problem Solving

            Problems and misunderstanding between students and teachers inside the classroom is natural to occur, so every time there is a concern from one of the students I always consult my cooperating teacher on what to do about it. I ask for her advise on what to do on that kind of situations and how to deal with it better, the next time it happens. I always talk to the students about discipline and respect to each other to avoid any kind of problem between them and me also.

1.4 Classroom Management

            The students already have a routine activity before and after the class. Before starting the class there is a student already assigned to stand on the center, to lead the prayer and greeting the teachers. When it is after the class there still a leader in praying and saying goodbye to the teachers. The students automatically pick up all the piece of thrash around their chairs and tidy their seats. They put their seat upside down the table and the assigned cleaner for the day will tidy up the room before leaving.


            In managing the students noise they do the Attention! Call and the students will answer ready but sometimes the students answer but they keep being noisy so I teach them a call that will make them quiet. When I say tiga they will zip their mouth, dua is for covering the mouth and satu is removing the hands from their mouth. The one who will not do this will stand at the center to do it together with the other students. Somewhat the call works for the students and they become quiet when we do it.

1.5 Others

            After teaching in class I realize and learn a lot of things. Teaching students who have a different language than me is really a challenging and at the same time an enjoyable thing to do. I feel really happy when there are students who ask me questions and displaying understanding of the lesson, I thought them. When there are other students who have difficulty in understanding the lesson, I feel challenge and really want them to be one of the students who understand and enjoy the lesson. Teaching is a very fulfilling thing to do, when the students display learning and understanding of the lesson, I made effort to present. Teaching is not an easy task especially with language barrier but it is fulfilling to do.
